Winter Fashion Trends: Top 4 Warm Accessories

By Nerina Milano Hodzic

With the first flakes of snow this winter, my thoughts immediately drift to warm fashion accessories. When the air temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius (or 32 Fahrenheit), most people steer away from fashion trends and resort to wrapping themselves-up into oversized sweaters. However, chilly winter weather does not only mean oversized sweaters (and out of style-bulky clothing). The frosty days can also be a perfect time to show-off your style and stand out from the crowd… without catching a cold. Wearing warm winter accessories will make your icy outfit hot and trendy!
Winter Trends That Warm You-Up
1. Winter Hats That Keep Your Head Snug & Warm:

For a few seasons now, the snow beanie has been trending.  Beanie hats are ideal for everyday outfits, and they come in a a variety of styles. For the true glamour girls, there is one new very stylish piece: it is the warm wool baseball cap with fun details such as zircons and rhinestones

2. Looong Wool Scarves:

They come in myriad colors: black, gray, white, red, etc. For the bold fashionistas, I recommend the trendy red-tartan scarf.

3. Warm and Fluffy: Faux-Fur

Faux Fur: Before I even begin, I want to be LOUD & CLEAR, supporting animal torture by buying real fur is NOT fashionable. In fact, see HERE what happens to the helpless and innocent animals whom are anally electrocuted for their fur.

Like every winter, FAUX fur is the “it” piece, whether you wear it as a scarf, a detail on your jacket or a full faux-fur coat. Most often, we see faux-fur in black, white and gray but this season on the streets, you can see the ladies in beige, brown and camel faux-fur coats. Note: If you opt for this kind of coat, let the rest of the outfit be neutral, without unnecessary details and colors.

4. Sunglasses

Yes, you read that right. Why not? Protect your eyes from bright sun and the snowflakes in the winter. In addition, the sunglasses will give your face a little bit mystery just like a celebrity. Opt for large glasses and enjoy the winter days!

Bosnian/B o s a n s k i :

Toplo, čupavo i vještačko:

Vještačko Krzno. Prije nego sto pocnem ovaj dio, hocu da vam kazem da podrzavanje mucenje zivotinja kroz kupovinu njihovog krzna NIJE moderno. Pogledajte ovaj post kako se bezpomocne i nevine zivotnje prvu muce a ondau ubiju za njihovo krzno. Kao i svake zime, vještačko krzno je „it“ komad, bilo da ga nosite kao okovratnik, detalj na jakni ili kao vještačku krznenu bundicu. Najčešće viđamo krzno u crnoj, bijeloj i sivoj boji, no ove sezone ulicama ćete moći vidjeti i dame u bež, smeđim i camel krznenim čupavcima. Pažnja: ukoliko se odlučite za ovakvu vještačku bundu, neka ostatak outfita bude umirujući, bez suvišnih detalja i previše boja!

Sunčane Naočale

Da, da dobro ste pročitali. Zašto da ne? Snijeg, blještavilo, pahulje….zaštite svoje oči i zimi. Uz to, sunčane naočale dat će vašem licu pomalo misteriozan i chic izgled, baš poput celebrity-a. Odlučite se za naočale širih okvira i uživajte u zimskim danima!

Digging for Gems in Your Closet

By Amra B.

I believe in recycling old clothes and making them look new. While digging through my old stuff, I found a pair of old Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain boots. I remember how excited I was to get them, but eventually they found their way to one of my storage boxes, and were long forgotten (until recently). Re-discovering them was great: I felt like I went shopping and bought something I had wanted for years. Best part of finding old stuff: it is free!

Reasons why we should dig through our old clothes:

1. Don’t be a slave to trends: some classic pieces are timeless and will look amazing no matter if you wore them five years ago or wear them now
2. No Copy Cats: chances are that if you buy a coat from the most recent collection in Zara, you will see ten other girls wearing it on the street. There is nothing that makes me regret a purchase more than when I see other girls running around wearing exact same pieces. Wearing some of my recycled clothing makes me feel special because many people no longer have it.
3. You are guaranteed to find something you love: you picked out these clothes once upon a time, so chances are you will still like some of your choices. You are not diggining through a stranger’s closet, you might have the same enthusiasm for chunky sweaters today as you did five years ago.
4. It’s free: spending money is fun, but getting things for free is even better. You can walk away with a fabulous find and not spend a penny on it (feels like an early Christmas). 🙂

Top 5 Picks: What to Wear to the Office This Winter

By Jessica Miller

With winter here, you do not have to forgo looking fabulous to stay warm. In fact, layering clothes is a perfect way to show off your style. When in the office, it can be a tad bit tricky to look professional and fashionable. So, what to wear to work this winter season and look fabulously chic? Here are my top 5 picks:

1. Velvet blazer: perfect to go over a collared shirt, a cotton shirt or even a dress. Can dress it up or down depending on what you are wearing beneath.

Make it a Power Blazer!
(In the center Sarah Jessica Parker sports a deep purple velvet blazer.)

2. Colored tights: You may be thinking colored tights are only reserved for our favorite TV shows like Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. However, you can elegantly pair colored tights with a unicolored dress (e.g., black, gray or other neutrals) without making a splash…unless of course that is what you aim to do. 😉

Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively
and Leighton Meester in Colored Tights
(Always love Sex and the City and Gossip Girl as our “go to guides” on anything fashion.)

3. Lace: Always sexy. You do not have to save the lace for the bedroom or for parties. You can elegantly pair lace with a blazer or wear dresses with conservative cuts and/or long sleeves.

Lace Dresses for Work and for Parties

4. Winter white: White is no longer reserved only for the spring and the summer. Winter white is fresh, clean and memorable. If you want to be bold, wear white on white. Otherwise, white is easy to pair with anything.

5. Everything Maroon: Walking through Zara, I noticed maroon everywhere. It seems to be the “it” color for this season, i.e. everything from maroon shoes to nail colors. Fashion tip: pair maroon with leopard print to make a splash.

Fashionistas, just because you are in the office does not mean you have to look boring and out of date. I hope you enjoyed my guide on how to glow while at work. Until next time…xoxo!

Summer in Australia: My Beauty Tips & Tricks

By Sammy Jade

One of my favourite things about the change in seasons is the new range of products that become available. With summer being the most fun, active, and exciting of all the seasons, I have definitely found a few products already that I will be using throughout the warmer months.

Some of my favorite products…

Favorite Bronzer

The J bronze tanning range is a relatively new product from Australia’s very own Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins, and with her stunning looks and gorgeous personality, she has set herself up for a winner with this range.

I am always on the hunt for the perfect self tanner, and for the moment, this is definitely a front runner. What I love about this product is not only the silky mousse which makes for an easy and even application, but also the relatively quick processing time and the perfect bronze it produces. Gone are the days of carrot coloured tans with this.

Favorite Scent

It is an outrage that the only place we can find Victoria’s Secret in Australia is in the airport. So you can imagine that I took full advantage last time I was there. This body fragrance is my absolute favourite sent right now, and is the perfect mixture of summer, femininity and happiness. My only challenge is to try and make it last until my next trip there. Wish me luck!

Oh. My. Goodness.

Hair Mask

For what feels like centuries, I have been on the hunt for a great hair mask, and having seen this brand all throughout YouTube, I thought I would try it and was very surprised at how inexpensive this product is. And what better time to start making the extra effort with caring for your hair than during the summer when it takes the most beating.

This product not only works to create a healthy scalp and roots, but also creatures lustre and shine and the best part- It smells like Chai Tea. You had better hope that you like this smell with the product, because the scent permeates your hair and shows itself again when you brush through it the next day.

Heavenly.

Lip Gloss

Ok so this one is not a new favourite- just an all time favourite. I absolutely love not only the colour of this lip gloss, but also the silkiness of the product upon application.

The colour is very pigmented which makes it a perfect alternative for the carefree summer makeup styles! No effort required.

Facial Toner

The one great thing you need in summer, apart from an awesome cleanser, is a toner. Along with all the other Chanel products, this feels absolutely amazing on your skin. It works to neutralise your skin and eliminate oil that clogs your pores- and it feels so refreshing!

Another aspect I love to this product is that its the only one I have ever used which feels as through it is moisturising your face, rather than drying t out from the alcohol in it.

Definitely worth a try!

Style Chat with One of Miami’s "It" Girls: Annie Vazquez

By Lizbeth Perez

The Seductiveness of a Beachfront City

Miami is both a metropolitan hub and a beach city combined into one. It is a place where models and tourists roam free in bikinis (or little clothing) while the rest of the country has to resort to sweaters and boots.

Thus, for many people, fashion is not exactly what comes to mind for a city that rarely sees the weather dip lower than the mid 60F…for a cold front. However, Miami is the exception; fashion and trends are very much a part of its appeal and culture.

This beachfront city is a magical place, where people come to get away from the chilly fall and winter weather, and which they come to see and be seen. Miami is a melting pot of cultures. Its inhabitants enjoy a perpetual summer. The sunshine and the warm weather adds to its allure…

Miami’s Ultrachic Girls

Annie Vazquez: One of Miami’s
 Most Closely Followed Fashionistas
Enter Miami’s “it” girls. These are the girls that dine with renowned fashion designers, receive freebies like jewelry and beauty products, attend fashion shows in Miami and New York City. The “it” girls are not only some of Miami’s most notable socialites but also the girls who other fashionistas (in Miami and South America) look-up to for style inspiration.

But with all that said, who exactly are some of Miami’s most notable fashionistas and what makes them tick or shop? This week, we try to answer these questions by giving you a glimpse into one of Miami’s very own fashionistas, Annie Vasquez. Ms. Annie is Cuban-American with a very fresh and inspiring style. Here is what she had to say:

Annie Vazques in Her Element: Art, Food and Fashion!
CF: Describe yourself in three words?

Annie: Entrepreneurial, optimistic and stylish.

CF: How did you get started with your blog?

Annie: I got started 2 1/2 years ago when local fashion stories about designers, boutiques and events weren’t being bought from Miami-based publications. The recession had hit, and it was when journalism began to really change…

CF: What are some of the perks of writing a fashion blog?

Annie: The biggest perk of all is that I now do it full-time, and I love it because I get to be creative and work with some of the most amazing companies and most talented people out there. I am my own boss and there’s nothing like it!

CF: In your own words, describe Miami’s street style.

Annie: It’s mish-mash of hipster cool, of body con stiletto clacking sexiness and beachy boho all unified by 90 degree weather.

CF: How has your taste in fashion changed over time?

Annie: I tend to gravitate towards boho 60s threads always and hats. I love hats, but I’ve been experimenting a lot these days with classic staples.

CF: Do you have a style icon?

Annie: I mean I love Diane Von Frusetenberg and everything she stands for and I love that she is this powerhouse with an ever-growing fan base of women of really all ages. I also look up to Diane Vreeland. I’m drawn to women that know style and are able to make a business out of it not just look pretty or cool anyone can do that.

Me (left) with Diane von Frustenberg (center)
CF: Do you have a favorite outfit that you have posted on your blog?

Annie: Every outfit I’ve put on the blog I am connected to. I just don’t thrown on an outfit and say photograph me. They all are part of a thematic idea that I took time to cultivate. A lot of them are me exploring myself and how I feel so I don’t have favorites.

CF: Your wardrobe is going up in flames…and you can only save one thing, what is it?

Annie: My great godmother’s 1950s coat. I love that coat and her. She was all about women’s empowerment.

CF: What are the five must haves for any wardrobe this season?

Annie: 1.Faux-fur coat; 2. candy colored coat; 3. leather (or pleather) anything; 4. something in plaid; and 5. killer boots.

CF: What, in your opinion, is the outfit for any occasion?

Annie: I suppose most people rely on the LBD.

CF: When you first enter a store, what do you immediately scan for? What draws you?

Anything that is different.

CF: Any advice for girls when shopping under a budget?

Annie: Shop everywhere and thrift, you’d be surprise the treasures you find there.

Annie, we would like to thank you very much for taking the time to do this interview. We look forward to keeping up with your adventures in Miami through your blog, and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Have a positive and fabulous day!

Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken

By Elma B.

Words to live by…

“Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.”-Oscar Wilde
When thinking about what to wear (or how to live), the most important truth is to stick to your core self as much as possible. We all have talents, and we all have flaws. The people who are meant to stay in your life will see the radiance that penetrates through your skin. Whatever the form of your self expression, writing, painting, designing, or cooking, engage in it to be closer to your core. The most important part: have fun!

For the fashionistas, my outfit dissected…scarf: Ralph Lauren; leather jacket: Zara; dress with giant roses: Susan Monaco; sunglasses: Urban Outfitters; stalkings: Wolford; and heels: vintage. I adore these photos because this was one of the last colorful fall days, which we managed to capture through our lens. I saw these red trees and immediately fell in love with their fiery colors. Guide from a Local: Top 10 Must See in Hawaii

By Rachel Burt

Top 10 Things Must See and Do in Hawaii…from a Local!

Beyond the deep heavy waters and crystal clear Pacific Ocean, green valleys, golden sands, and colorful rainbows, lies the eight islands of Aloha, also known as Hawaii. Starting from the power of their active volcanos to the pure beauty of the Hawaiian hula culture, I want to show all the beauty, adventure and culture Hawaii has to offer.

Hawai’i Volcano National Park

Located on the Big Island, the Kilauea Volcano is an active powerful goddess of fire, earth and water that has actual molten laval you can see breaking off and crashing into the sea until it meets the ocean and sparkles into the sky. I would recommend going at sunset time, where the sky is just setting to that deep blood orange and matches the color of lava. If you are headed to the Big Island, it is a must see.

Hawai’i Volcano National Park

Hanauma Bay

With the most crystal clear water and tons of live coral below, Hanauma Bay, located on the southeast of Oauhu is the best place to snorkel and see the beautiful creatures below. Hana, also known as “Bay,” and Uma, known as “curve,” can refer to its special curved shape form that which attracts sea turtles and thousands of colorful fish. You will be amazed at the wildlife that exists here.

Hanauma Bay
Me Diving in Hanauma Bay
Polynesian Cultural Center

Located on the northeastern side of Oahu, the Polynesian Center gives you the history to Hawaii’s first visitors and south Pacific cultures. The Polynesian Cultural Center takes you through seven native villages, canoeing adventures, and the most authentic luau and Polynesian fire hula show! Be prepared to be totally stuffed at the end of it!

Polynesian Cultural Center
Na Pali Coast

On the northwest coast of Kauai lies my favorite place in all of Hawaii, the 15 mile length untouched wonderland of Na Pali State park. It is filled with seaside cliffs, gigantic waterfalls, narrow valleys, marine life of dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and rugged untouched beaches. We parked our car and started to hike until we were stopped by a heavy rainfall on the way. This is only accessed by the adventurous hikers, kayakers, and boaters; with that said, it is worth to see because of its breathtaking view of the coastline.
Me Exploring the Na Pali Coast
The Seven Mile Miracle, North Shore, Pipeline

The phrase ‘Seven Mile Miracle’ describes the most popular and celebrated stretch of coastline located on the North Shore of Oahu, the Capital of the surfing world. The North Shore has the biggest and the most perfect waves, where the best surfers in the world like Kelly Slater, John Florence, and Mick Fanning, come for the challenge of the year.

The Seven Mile Miracle and
World Famous Surfer Kelly Slater
The best time to come and see the Seven Mile Miracle would be the high peek winter months from November until February, which serve the heaviest and biggest waves of the year–up to 30 or 40 ft and hosting the world’s premier surf competition “Vans Triple Crown.” For me, this competition seems more like Christmas in Hawaii than the actual Christmas because it is a time where people stop what they are doing, no work, school or cleaning and come together to celebrate this big event. For instance, there are parties and barbecues, sleepovers with friends, i.e., the whole world stops in Hawaii during this competition.

Me (left)
Waikiki Beach

My favorite weekend out in the town with the ladies cruising on our longboards, sipping mai tais and pina coladas all day in the sun would be what tourists from all over the world may know Waikiki Beach.

Me (center) at Waikiki Beach
It has everything to do from the birth of longboard surfing to catamaran boat rides. At Waikiki Beach, you can enjoy shopping, dining, dancing and even a romantic evening for two (the place known to have the most weddings hosted in the world)! When finished with studying and yearning to explore the country, Waikiki was my favorite mini “New York City.” Celebrities from all over the world come to enjoy this classic Beach.

Top of Waikiki, Revolving Restaurant

What is more romantic than to sit on top of Hawaii’s only revolving restaurant with 360 panoramic views of the world’s most famous beach. Top of Waikiki is located on the 21st floor in the center of Hawaii giving you panoramic views of sunsets while eating top notch seafood, steak and cocktails with candlelight ambience. You can always stop by for happy hour from 5-7pm like I do for sunset cocktails.

Views of Honolulu While Dining

Ala Moana Shopping Mall

Sounds silly but this is not your ordinary mall. It is an open air mall, i.e., with palm trees and open skies in the center of it all, and there are luxury brands, bars and fine dining with live music. You can spot many celebrities shopping here.

First Friday Downtown Arts Scene

Venturing into the amazing arts scene that hides in downtown Honolulu, Chinatown comes alive every First Friday of the month with open house galleries, music, entertainment, and the hippest bars in Hawaii. The Honolulu museum of Art hosts the Afterdark Party, where you can find top international artists, designers, and people from all over the world, locals, and students. It is like New York City meets Honolulu in one night.

Diamond Head

Diamond head, known to resemble a head of a Fish, is a 1.4 mile hike that climbs an elevation of 560 with a view of all Honolulu. It is a beautiful site for whale watching, and a popular place for locals to have a daily run or a hike; this is a must see when going to the island of Oahu.

Diamond Head in Hawaii
Most people think of Hawaii as just a beautiful quiet place to get away with loads of sunshine. While half of that is true, do not overlook the underground scene, copious outdoor activities to partake-in, and the many trendy spots to relax and enjoy. Aloha and A Hui Hoi or until we meet again.

City Glam: Outfit of the Day

By Elma B.

When going out the timeless color combination– gold, black and red– is never a bad idea.  Those three colors are easy enough to pair to have a glamours outfit, whether for a cocktail party or a night out in the city. Styling tip: almost any outfit can be extraordinary with statement of accessories. Here, I paired two sparkly head bands, which I actually recycled from Halloween. Then I added an owl necklace and what looks like a giant vintage penchant. Also, another “it” piece this winter, which is extremely easy and comfortable to wear is my black jumpsuit.

Outfit dissected: jumpsuit and necklaces-Forever XXI; coat-Saks Fifth Avenue; headbands- Icing; lipstick and eyeshadow-KIKO; booties: Zara. There you have it fashionistas, have a positive and fabulous Sunday. Until next time…XOXO!

The Road Not Taken

By Amra B.

I have been reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and it has taken some time to get through only half of the book. I tend to pick up a book, absolutely fall in love with it, read it for couple of hours for the first two days, and then just toss it in the corner because of work and other distraction. I eventually return to it, but it takes too long: there are too many important concepts out there and discovering them sooner rather than later could considerably alter my life.

For this outfit of the day post, I believe I was unconsciously (or even consciously) reenacting the role of the main character Santiago, a shepherd boy who lives in Andalusia, Spain. I love the gravel road and how we didn’t really know where it lead (it turns out it was part of a really large farm that later served as a background for another shoot). For me, beauty of life is really in exploration; each time you may discover something beautiful that can change you forever.

Oh, yes, and before I forget about the outfit: my favorite combination for fall/winter is always denim with chunky sweaters. This sweater is one of my favorites because it looks like an Indian print, goes perfectly with almost anything, keeps me warm, and is comfortable!

Now, back to reading Alchemist! Wishing you a wonderful day! 🙂

Country Chic: Outfit of the Day

By Elma B.

“Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer. Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen.”-Leonardo da Vinci

Me away from the city enjoying the fresh country air

I have done my best to adhere to the above mentioned quote of taking the time to escape your everyday rut to clear your mind. Thus, every now and then, get away from the city noise (or your everyday life noise) and escape to the country. The vibe of the country is calming and peaceful, and the air is fresh, which does wonders for the skin.

I am sure you have noticed that after staying cooped inside for a while, your skin looses its glow and your under-circles and/or skin tone darken. To heal the mind and your outer physique, escape from the city and enjoy the beauty of mother nature. Walk in the grass (with bare feet if necessary) to reconnect with the earth and rid your head of all the accumulated pollution. When you come back to the city (or your everyday life), your problems will appear smaller and your mind calmer.

Me, enjoying the country sun…
For the fashionistas, my outfit dissected: Cape-Free People; red velvet dress-Forever 21; lipstick-MAC; eyeshadow: KIKO; headband-Forever 21; booties & leather jacket-ZARA;  opaque black stalkings-Wolford; black sunglasses-vintage.
